Online Databases - What is so great about them?

Today our 3rd and 4th graders were introduced to an online database called kidsearch.  It is hosted by Ebsco and frankly about as userfriendly as an online database can be for a younger student.  Introducing and showing students that there is more out in the world to search besides Wikipedia and Google, just makes sense.  Students are being charged with becoming finders of relevant and useful information and this is one more tool they can use inorder to accomplish that task.  I have added KIDSEARCH under our sidebar "Useful Sites for Kids", so check it out and happy searching!

Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready?

It is that time of year again...  the smell of new shoes, glue sticks and new BOOKS.  The school year is starting and I couldn't be MORE EXCITED!  With our freshly weeded library, our shelves are begging to be filled with some great newbies, and as your librarian, I aim to please.
Stop in and see what is new and check out the "Battle" Board outside of the library.
My goal this year, as the librarian, is to make research, investigating and finding new information and books fun!
We are going to be introducing iPads into our library research, publishing in different video formats, and talking a lot more about being "responsible" users of technology.  If you don't know what that means, don't worry, you will soon!
So finish up those last pages on your summer read, and get ready for a great year in the library!
